31 Mar UNCOVERED – Making a Work of Art | April 15th – 29th
Hosted by Project 504, ‘Uncovered: Making a Work of Art’ offers an insight into the creative processes of five unique contemporary artists.
‘Uncovered: Making a Work of Art’ offers an insight into the creative processes of five unique contemporary artists.
Helen Connolly, Sean Hutton, Christina Rogers, Michael Simms and Lucy West-Sooby forged a connection as scholarship winners at the legendary Julian Ashton Art School, and have gone on to find success as sought after commission painters and finalists in major prizes such as the Manning Regional Art Prize, The Gallipoli Art Prize and the Cambridge Studio Gallery Portrait Prize to name a few.
For this exhibition, each artist has documented the progress of several major new works in an effort to tell the whole story of a painting, rather than just the conclusion. While the group share a background of classical training, the exhibition will reveal that even among like-minded artists there is a diverse range of creative methods and no two imaginations are the same. Art lovers will gain valuable insight into the nature of creative work, and fellow artists will recognise some of their own daily hardships and triumphs.
As part of the exhibition, the artists will hold open portrait sittings on Thursday the 21st of April and Tuesday the 26th of April between 12 and 7pm. Participants will have the opportunity to sit for an hour-long ‘alla prima’ portrait, with the option of purchasing the work, or simply enjoying the experience of being painted by a professional artist. These portraits will be added to the exhibition as they are painted, fresh from the easel.
The group are excited to present their latest works at the Project 504 gallery, 504 Pacific Hwy, St Leonards. They enthusiastically invite the public to enjoy the live music and entertainment of the opening night on Friday 15th April from 5:30-9pm, as well as the open portrait events. Anne Phillips, director of Art Market Works, will unveil the exhibition as special guest speaker. The exhibition will close on Friday 29th April.
